Ye Storms Off Piers Morgan Interview: “We Can Circle Back When You Can Count”

What was supposed to be a revealing conversation between Ye (formerly Kanye West) and British broadcaster Piers Morgan turned confrontational within minutes—and ended just as quickly.

The interview, filmed with a scenic backdrop of the Mallorca coast, unraveled early on when Morgan referred to him as “Ye West.” Ye immediately corrected the host, stating that he dropped “West” to shed what he called his “slave name.”

“You see that view?” Ye asked, gesturing behind him. “Judge me by the view,” he said when asked how his life is going right now.

Interview Turns Tense Over Social Media Numbers

Piers Morgan challenged the calm opening, suggesting that Ye’s peaceful surroundings contrasted with his recent outbursts on X (formerly Twitter). Ye fired back:

“I already disagree. It’s not in contrast. There are so many people and artists expressing who they truly are. Being attacked by the banks and still surviving—that’s the win.”

The moment that triggered the walkout came when Morgan incorrectly stated Ye’s follower count on X as 32 million, when the actual number was over 33.3 million. That slight misstep sparked an outburst.

“You’re not gonna take inches off my d***, bro,” Ye snapped. “I’m a gift. Why do all you people in media act like you haven’t played my songs at your weddings, your graduations, your funerals, or when your child was born?”

He continued by comparing himself to late icons:

“You take someone living—like a Lennon or Michael Jackson—and twist the narrative. That kind of nuance is idiotic. There’s so much love in the art I put out, and all you give back is hate.”

Ye Walks Out, Morgan Lashes Out

Before storming off camera, Ye closed with:

“This is what you get for now. We can circle back when you can count.”

Morgan didn’t hold back after the departure, calling Ye a “sniveling little coward” and turning his frustration toward streamer Sneako, who was seated beside Ye during the interview. Morgan pressed Sneako on his continued support for Ye despite the rapper’s history of antisemitic remarks and recent controversial statements praising figures like Adolf Hitler and Diddy.

Billboard has reached out for comment regarding the interview’s fallout.
