The playful exchange happened Monday night (May 5) inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, where Usher serenaded guests as part of the evening’s festivities. During his set, the “Yeah!” hitmaker continued one of his signature concert traditions — feeding a cherry to a lucky audience member. This time, that person was none other than Carpenter.
In a now-viral photo, Usher can be seen holding a microphone in one hand and dangling a maraschino cherry by the stem in the other, while Carpenter playfully leans back with her mouth open and tongue out, ready to receive the fruit. The moment was flirty, fun, and in true Usher fashion — a little bit provocative.
The Cherry Tradition: A Flirty Usher Staple
Usher’s fruity onstage gestures aren’t new. During his Las Vegas residency shows in 2022–2023, he famously incorporated feeding fruit — starting with strawberries — into his live performances.
“It started with strawberries in Vegas,” he shared on The Jennifer Hudson Show earlier this year. “We tried all the fruits to see which worked best. Cherries just felt fun and active — a little erotic.”
“That’s what R&B is about,” he added with a grin. “Making people feel something. It’s about connection. I’m not trying to break up any homes.”
