Jamie Foxx is setting the record straight and shutting down wild conspiracy theories once and for all. In a new interview, the Oscar-winning actor and comedian addressed internet rumors claiming that music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was somehow involved in his 2023 medical emergency.
Foxx: “No, Puffy Didn’t Try to Kill Me”
Speaking in a candid roundtable interview with The Hollywood Reporter alongside Hasan Minhaj, Chelsea Handler, Roy Wood Jr., Seth Meyers, and Sarah Silverman, Foxx didn’t mince words about the speculation.
“I’m in f—ing perfect shape,” Foxx said. “I saw things like, ‘Puffy tried to kill me.’ No, Puffy didn’t try to kill me. When they said I was a clone, that made me flip. I’m sitting in the hospital bed like, ‘These b—h-a– motherf—ers are trying to clone me.’”
The 57-year-old revealed that during his hospitalization, he was heavily sedated with a cocktail of medications including OxyContin, Dilantin, and morphine. He admits that much of his time in the hospital remains a blur, but he managed to sneak in a phone and found himself scrolling through the bizarre and baseless conspiracy theories spreading across social media.
“I was doing so many jokes in the hospital,” he added. “That’s the only way I could get through it. I’m a comic, so even when I was sedated, I kept laughing to stay sane.”
The Origins of the Conspiracy
The rumors began in April 2023 after Foxx’s daughter, Corinne Foxx, revealed that her father was hospitalized for a “medical complication” while filming Back in Action in Atlanta alongside Cameron Diaz. Foxx later disclosed that he suffered a stroke caused by a brain bleed, which nearly claimed his life. According to a nurse, he had only a 5% chance of survival.
Foxx addressed the situation further in his Netflix stand-up special What Had Happened Was, where he also laughed off the rumors:
“The internet said Puffy was trying to kill me,” he said during the special. “I know what you thinking, ‘Diddy?’ Hell no, I left them parties early.”
Diddy’s Reps Respond
Representatives for Sean Combs previously responded to the rumors in October 2024, calling the speculation “outlandish, ridiculous, and baseless.” At the time, the internet had begun tying multiple public figures and events into elaborate theories related to Foxx’s health scare, but no credible evidence has ever linked Combs to the incident.
Diddy’s Ongoing Legal Battles
While Foxx continues to recover and make his public comeback, Diddy is currently entangled in serious legal troubles of his own. He is on trial in Manhattan federal court for charges including sex trafficking and racketeering, stemming from a wide-reaching investigation that could see him face life in prison if convicted on all counts. The trial, already filled with shocking testimony and media attention, is expected to run through July 2025.
A Comeback Story for the Ages
After spending nearly a month in the hospital and undergoing extensive testing, Foxx is now back in action—both literally and figuratively. He recently walked the red carpet in Berlin for the premiere of Back in Action and appears to be in high spirits. During his Netflix special, he told the audience that he came “within an inch of his life,” but never lost his sense of humor.
Despite the internet noise, Foxx remains focused on his recovery, career, and keeping fans entertained with his signature comedic charm.
