Good Fortune Trailer: Keanu Reeves Plays a Literal Angel in Aziz Ansari’s Upcoming Comedy

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Aziz Ansari, Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh

That Keanu Reeves has long been regarded as something of an angel in real life is no secret. Whether he’s dispatching hordes of villains in John Wick, voicing a brooding hedgehog in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, or capturing hearts in The Lake House, the Canadian actor-musician-comic book writer is often celebrated for his kindness and humility.

Now, in Good Fortune — the upcoming comedy written and directed by Aziz Ansari — Reeves trades his dark and brooding personas for a pair of wings. Playing a literal angel named Gabriel, he descends to Earth to intervene in the lives of gig worker Arj (Ansari) and arrogant venture capitalist Jeff (Seth Rogen). Whether his divine mission brings salvation or chaos, well, the first trailer suggests it might be a bit of both. Watch it below:

“To save a lost soul, you have to find a lost soul.”

So says Sandra Oh’s character Martha, a no-nonsense celestial being offering guidance to Gabriel, who seems more accustomed to trivial tasks like preventing texting while driving than serious spiritual redemption. The teaser shows Gabriel in a trench coat and angel feathers, struggling to connect with Arj, a skeptical delivery driver unimpressed by his “budget guardian angel,” and eventually clashing with Jeff, the smug investor whose life may be ripe for disruption.

The minute-long teaser is short on plot but big on energy and charm. Reeves appears to embrace the ridiculousness of the role with gusto, while Ansari clearly enjoys flipping expectations — casting the typically intense “Baba Yaga” as an adorably awkward heavenly figure.

What we don’t see in the trailer, however, is the story’s surprising twist: in an attempt to help both men see life from the other side, Gabriel swaps their lives. But when Arj starts to enjoy Jeff’s power and privilege a little too much, the well-intentioned plan backfires — leading to celestial chaos and comedy alike.

Whether Good Fortune turns out to be heavenly fun or a comedy misfire in disguise remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure: with Reeves as your angel, the vibes are already immaculate.

Good Fortune hits cinemas on 17 October 2025.
