Arsenal have secured the long-term future of one of their defensive pillars, with Gabriel Magalhães signing a new contract that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2029.

The 27-year-old Brazilian had already been under contract until 2027, but this fresh deal highlights his vital role in manager Mikel Arteta’s plans as the Gunners continue their pursuit of domestic and European glory.

Gabriel’s Journey From Lille to Arsenal Mainstay

Gabriel arrived in North London in 2020 from Lille in a £27 million deal, and has since grown into one of the Premier League’s most consistent defenders. With 210 appearances across all competitions, he has become a cornerstone of Arteta’s evolving project.

Reflecting on his Arsenal journey, Gabriel said:

“I arrived here as a young player and after almost five years I’m so happy and I’ve learned a lot.”
“It’s an amazing journey, and I’m so happy to continue it. I hope I win some trophies with this club, because I love this club and my family loves the club, too.”

A Fan Favourite Committed to the Cause

Gabriel’s emotional bond with the club was evident in his words:

“Arsenal is an amazing club and I’m so proud to sign a new contract. I love the supporters, my team-mates, I love this stadium. I’m so proud — thank you for all the support. We continue together for the future.”

Known for his strength, aerial dominance, and set-piece threat, Gabriel has also developed a formidable partnership with William Saliba since 2022, becoming a rock-solid presence at the heart of Arsenal’s back line.

Injury Blow Costly for the Gunners

Unfortunately, Gabriel missed the final two months of the 2024–25 season due to a hamstring injury, a setback that proved pivotal. In his absence, Arsenal struggled defensively, falling out of the Premier League title race and crashing out of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals against eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain.

His return to full fitness and renewed commitment offers renewed hope ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.

Transfer Update: Arsenal Eye Zubimendi and New Striker

Off the pitch, Arsenal’s recruitment drive continues. The club is reportedly close to finalizing a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi, and remains in the market for a top-class striker to bolster the frontline.

With Gabriel locked in, the Gunners are clearly laying solid foundations to strengthen their title ambitions.
