Drake Urges Governor to Pardon Tory Lanez After Prison Stabbing: ‘Come Home Soon’

Following a brutal attack that left Tory Lanez hospitalized, Drake publicly supports the rapper’s release.

Drake is standing by fellow Toronto artist Tory Lanez following a violent stabbing incident in prison that left Lanez with life-threatening injuries. The 6 God took to Instagram on Friday (May 16) to voice his support and amplify a growing movement calling for Lanez’s release.

“@torylanez come home soon,” Drake wrote on his Instagram Story, sharing a link to a Change.org petition urging California Governor Gavin Newsom to grant a pardon to the embattled rapper.

Lanez—whose real name is Daystar Peterson—is currently serving a 10-year sentence following his 2022 conviction on three felony charges related to the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion after a Hollywood Hills pool party. He was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

Earlier this week, TMZ reported that Lanez had been stabbed multiple times while in the prison yard at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. He was rushed to a hospital in nearby Bakersfield where he underwent emergency medical treatment.

A detailed statement later posted to Lanez’s Instagram account shocked fans with the severity of the attack.

“He had been stabbed 14 times, including seven wounds to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face. Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus,” the post read. “He is now breathing on his own. Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for the continued prayers and support.”

The incident has sparked renewed debate among fans and supporters regarding the harshness of Lanez’s sentence and his safety while incarcerated. The Change.org petition, which Drake helped promote, argues that Lanez has not been treated fairly and that the justice system failed to account for mitigating circumstances.

This isn’t the first time Drake has publicly supported Lanez. Back in December 2024, during the annual “Drizzmas Giveaway” livestream with Adin Ross, Drake toasted to Lanez, saying:
“3 up T, man. 3 up T. I know they don’t want to hear me say that. 3 up T.”

Ten months prior, Drake had posted a cryptic but supportive message on Instagram that read simply: “3 u.”

Although the two Toronto hitmakers were once embroiled in a feud, they officially reconciled in 2017. Drake confirmed the truce in an Instagram post that year, and later surprised fans by bringing Lanez out on stage at OVO Fest to perform “Controlla”—a standout track from Drake’s 2016 album Views.

As Tory Lanez recovers from his injuries and fans rally behind him, the support from a figure as influential as Drake may add momentum to calls for clemency. Whether the petition gains traction with California officials remains to be seen, but the incident has undoubtedly reignited public discussion about incarceration, celebrity, and justice.
